Servers were shut down across all Dark Souls games on PC back in January due to a security issue. Dark Souls 3 servers were back in August, then offline, then back online again last month. Now Dark Souls 2 is back, at least for the Scholar of the First Sin release that featured enhanced graphics and DLC. In Papers, Please you play as a border control agent for a fictional Eastern Bloc country, and must balance formal immigration checks with the emotional guilt-trip of turning away the starving and needy. “It’s hard to call such a nerve-shredding experience ‘fun’,” Dan Whitehead wrote in Eurogamer’s Papers, Please review, “but it is absorbing, brilliantly written and causes you to question your every instinct and reaction - both in the game and in real life....

In a statement, Paradox said “in order to meet our goals for it, we’ve come to the conclusion that a change is needed and, as a result, more development time is required”. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will now not release in 2021 as planned. Paradox said it has signed a new developer to pick up development duties, but it sounds like the wait for the game could be a long one....

Announced back in 2014 for release on PS4, Wild was due to be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment with Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil creator Michel Ancel at the helm - until the famed designer announced his retirement from the games industry in 2020. Wild only properly surfaced one more time following its announcement - at Paris Games Week in 2015 - and gameplay details remain limited to his day....

The announcement was made today in a business briefing by Sony on its “Game and Network Services Segment.” Speaking to investors in a briefing call, PlayStation chief Jim Ryan said, “Right now, there is a considerable amount of money being spent on partnerships with independent and other third-party developers to secure a considerable pipeline of attractive VR content at the launch of PlayStation VR2,” (thanks, VGC). “That energy, that effort and that money will continue to grow as the installed base of PlayStation VR2 headsets grows also....

The library features music and sounds from the 2006 original Diamond and Pearl DS games, available to listen to and to download for use in personal video and music creation. Diamond and Pearl of course form the basis for the recent Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes, as well as the newly released Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The music and sounds are divided between the Music Box and a Playlists feature - the latter arranges audio by theme and allows users to create their own playlists....

The news arrived alongside the latest trailer for Scarlet and Violet, which dropped earlier today. On Twitter, Nintendo posted a video of the model, complete with some shiny visual effects, to show off the Scarlet and Violet inspired designs. The Switch OLED - Pokémon Scarlet and Violet edition will come with “a dock displaying Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon, special illustrations of the partner Pokémon on the back, and specially-designed Joy-Con controllers”....

The past two months have seen both Project Cars and Project Cars 2 disappear forever. The first game lasted longer - slightly - until 3rd October. Project Cars 2 was removed from sale on 21st September. In a statement posted to Twitter, developer Slightly Mad Studios blamed “expiring car and track licenses”, but said existing owners would still be able to play both games, and multiplayer servers would remain available....

So why pursue this line of testing in the first place? Well, it turns out that native code running on any PlayStation or Xbox console fails to consistently hit 60 frames per second. The base last-gen consoles are 30fps or under, with poorly implemented frame-pacing to boot. Xbox One X and PS4 Pro both run unlocked but can’t get close to hitting the magic 60fps, while both quality and performance modes on the current-gen machines also fall short....

As you might imagine, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is very much a continuation of the winning formula last seen in 2017’s Puyo Puyo Tetris, meaning plentiful block-dropping and blob-matching action spread across a variety of solo and multiplayer modes. Adventure mode returns for more ridiculous story driven shenanigans, for instance, this time across multiple dimensions and with a new overworld map, and returning favourites such as Versus, Fusion, Swap, Party, and Big Bang are joined by the new RPG-inspired Skill Battle mode - featuring dynamic character-based skills and equippable item cards....

Single-player DLC for the game looks unlikely, and the bundled multiplayer offering Red Dead Online was pronounced “dead” by its community of players after developer Rockstar confirmed it would no longer push major updates to the game to shift development to Grand Theft Auto 6 instead. That hasn’t put people off enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, however (with some help from the Thanksgiving holidays across the pond and Steam’s autumn sale)....
